First off I want to say I am so sorry that it took me so long to respond to this question. 

To answer your question, fear could be part of, or the very reason why somebody comes to Christ- God will use anything in someone’s life to draw them closer to Himself. I do think, however, that fear isn’t the reason why someone continues to have faith in Jesus. I think people find love, meaning, change of heart, satisfaction and wholeness in God and that’s what drives them to continue to place their faith in Jesus. If there was nothing out of death and this whole thing was a lie then at least I am finding love and satisfaction in life.
